HealthMine
I designed HealthMine’s new mobile product, connecting personalized guidance, health tracking, care plans, and rewards in one experience.
The opportunity
HealthMine had years of health information and outcomes gathered through its relationships with health insurers. The company was using that foundation to build a new consumer mobile product that could help members better understand their health and act on personalized recommendations.
The experience needed to support a wide range of needs—from preventive care and everyday wellness to managing existing conditions and pursuing specific health goals.
The challenge was bringing assessments, activity tracking, care plans, education, connected devices, and rewards into an experience that felt approachable rather than clinical or overwhelming.
01
Bring health information, activity, and care needs into one understandable view.
02
Translate complex information into priorities that feel personal and relevant.
03
Make recommended actions clear enough for members to understand and begin.
04
Connect completed actions to a visible sense of movement and improvement.
Designing the system
I was the sole product designer focused on the mobile experience, working with the guidance and approval of a design lead.
I mapped the product's information architecture and core journeys across onboarding, health assessments, preventive care, activity tracking, connected devices, care plans, and rewards. These flows needed to account for different member goals, data states, platform permissions, and external health services.
The system organized individual activities around broader health goals so members could understand what was recommended, monitor relevant information, and identify what to do next without navigating a collection of disconnected programs.

01 · Overarching user flow
Defined the actions, decisions, dependencies, and paths the experience needed to support.

02 · Mobile information architecture
Translated the journey into screens, destinations, and relationships across the mobile experience.
Designing through iteration
I used user journeys, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, and visual design studies to work through the product at different levels of fidelity.
Prototyping allowed me to evaluate navigation, activity tracking, care-plan structures, and the relationship between recommendations and rewards before committing to final screens.
I also used motion studies to explore more tactile ways of presenting progress and transitions. These studies helped communicate intended behaviors while giving engineering clearer guidance for implementation.

01 · Wireframe
Explored hierarchy, navigation, and the relationship between goals and programs.

02 · Prototype
Compared states and behaviors before committing to a final direction.

03 · Motion
Used motion studies to communicate transitions and tactile feedback.
The experience
The mobile experience brought daily activity, care plans, health content, rewards, and recommended actions into a personalized overview.
A health score was designed to give members a simple representation of where they stood and where they could improve. Individual actions and changing health indicators contributed to that broader picture, helping members connect everyday activity with longer-term wellness goals.
Progress indicators, completion states, and rewards reinforced that sense of movement. The objective was not to turn health management into a game, but to make progress easier to recognize and continued participation more motivating.

Project outcome
During my time at HealthMine, I delivered the product structure, key member journeys, interaction concepts, prototypes, and visual direction for the new mobile experience.
The work established how personalized guidance, health data, care plans, progress, and incentives could operate as parts of one connected product rather than as separate features.
I left HealthMine while the platform was still being built, so I was not present for its eventual release and do not have reliable launch or engagement metrics to share.
Reflection
HealthMine was an early opportunity for me to design a product whose complexity extended well beyond any individual screen.
The project taught me that progress and rewards are most effective when they clarify a meaningful journey. Before an experience can motivate someone, it must help them understand where they are, what matters, and what they can do next.
That principle continued to shape how I approached engagement systems in later products.
